Importing Air Conditioners into Ghana, Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire: Standards and Documents
2026-07-30
Know the standards regimes
Ghana requires air conditioners to meet Energy Commission efficiency standards and carry the approved energy label. Nigeria clears regulated products through the SONCAP programme (SON product certificate). Côte d'Ivoire uses a VOC (Verification of Conformity) scheme. Each market checks slightly different paperwork — plan certification before the container sails, not after it arrives.
Documents that clear customs
The core pack for an AC shipment: commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, product test reports, and the market-specific certificate (energy label registration, SONCAP PC, or VOC CoC). Model numbers on documents must match the units in the container exactly — mismatches are the most common cause of delays at Tema, Apapa and Abidjan.
How JML ships
JML consolidates mixed-model containers — wall splits, multi-splits, floor-standing and commercial units in one shipment — and prepares the documentation pack with matching model numbers and test reports. Tell us your destination port and we will confirm the exact certificate set your market requires before production.
